Installing the snaps on your Heritage Softail Classic bags (2006 & newer) now will extend the life of your bags, help to maintain the lid's shape, and eliminate the unsightly curl created by shrinkage in this area by holding the lid in its true and original position.
Why are snaps important on the heritage saddlebags?
In the early year models (1987-1999), the saddlebag lids were not equipped with snaps in the upper rear corners. If the saddlebags did not receive sufficient treatment with conditioner, the skirt or apron of the lid would dry out, shrink, and begin to curl up.
In 2000 HD began to equip the bags with snaps in the upper rear corner of the lid. It was a great solution, but many people did not use the snaps and when the lid began to shrink, it was even more obvious because the snaps would no longer snap thereby creating many unhappy customers.
So, again in 2006, HD began to manufacture bags without snaps, and the problem continues on. Our Snap Kit will resolve this problem for Heritage Softail Classic bikes (2006 & newer only).
What is the solution to keep the lids from curling up?
Even though HD no longer manufactures bags with snaps, the rear molded panel is still designed to accommodate the snap assembly.
Installing the snaps on your bags now will extend the life of your bags, help to maintain the lid's shape, and eliminate the unsightly curl created by shrinkage in this area by holding the lid in its true and original position.
